Payward, the parent company of the Kraken crypto exchange, plans to buy Saldo Bank in Lithuania. The deal is part of a push into the European Union. The company says it wants customers to keep cash, crypto, tokenized stocks and credit under one roof.

What happened

Payward announced it will acquire Saldo Bank, a Lithuanian bank, to expand its business in the EU. Co-CEO Arjun Sethi said customers want their money, crypto and investments in a single place. The first products planned are lending and cards.

Why it matters

A crypto company owning a bank means it can offer services that look more like everyday banking, not just trading. For people following Kraken on Polymarket, the deal adds context to the question of when the company might go public. Traders there still see a listing as more likely next year than before the end of this year. In our own 15-minute Bitcoin and Ethereum markets this morning, trading was a bit quieter than a normal day, and wallets as a group ended slightly behind.
